Protection of our global as well as our local environment is at the core of X Kommunications’ values and principles, as well as one of the key reasons we exist; to assist organisations employ technology that helps them work smarter, and therefore reduces their environmental footprint. It is also simply sound financial business practice.
In this overall policy statement, we commit our company to the following specific actions areas, strategies and plans: (Further details are available to relevant stakeholders from company publications or on request).
- To seek, trial, develop, test and provide telecommunications solutions for organisations which allow them to reduce the time and resources they employ in certain business tasks, directly and indirectly, so that they can improve their business efficiency and hence reduce their environmental impact e.g. reduce the amount of paperwork needed, the miles travelled etc.
- We actively encourage and comply with the use of Environmental criteria for Supply Chain Management.
- Complying with all relevant environmental legislation, regulations, ‘Best Practice’ and other suitable guidances.
- Energy Efficiency: As our sister Company EconoPower CEL is a specialist Energy Conservation Consultancy Company, we have much in-house expertise in structuring a Corporate Energy Management Policy and Framework, as well as generating and implementing the subsequent organised set of plans and actions to meet our Energy Reduction Target.
- Our Corporate Energy Management Policy Commitment commits the Company to a 5% compound reduction in Annual kWh consumed per employee in working hours for calendar years 2008, 2009, 2010 and is then reviewable at that point. (These areas concerned will include space heating, lighting, DHW etc).
- We are actively investigating plans to run one office at least partially from Renewable Energy sources during 2008-9.
- Through our sister company we have links with The Carbon Trust, the Corporate Environmental Advisory Centre, EST etc and access to their resources and programmes.
- All future offices will be designed using sustainable building principles –our new Devon Office uses the principles of thermal mass from local low embodied energy materials to provide a naturally regulated office temperature. In the winter this is supplemented by a zoned wet under floor heating system for maximum comfort and minimal energy use; controlled by networked programmable digital thermostats allowing us even remotely via the Internet, to minimize the amount of time the space and water heating is ON for.
- We comply and implement the 3 ‘R’s of fundamental waste management: Reduce, Recycle and Reuse and have a waste paper reuse facility, recycle consumables, and reduce the use of consumables as much as is pragmatic.
- We seek to manage and dispose of all remaining waste in a responsible manner.
- Provide training for our staff so that we all work in accordance with all policies and plans and within our environmentally aware culture.
- Regularly communicating our environmental performance to our employees and other significant stakeholders.
- Developing our management processes to ensure that environmental factors are considered during planning and implementation, and included in our purchasing decision-making.
- To reduce the amount of miles travelled on company business wherever possible, if there is a suitable technological replacement to a face2face meeting, and more appropriate route planning when traveling is necessary.
- Monitoring and continuously improving our environmental performance and work towards an ISO standard for 2008/9.
