Within 30 seconds of an order being signed, an agreement being completed, a visit report or service form being signed, that data can be on your back office system and be processed, even generating an invoice!
This revolutionary digital pen and paper technology allows field-based personnel to send data/forms immediately to anyone in the world via electronic mail, and/or straight to your back office system for immediate implementation, simply by replacing the pen's cap!
How powerful is that?
How much time and money can this save over conventional ways of dealing with forms and information capture?
No more faxing back information at the end of the day or week, no expensive roll out of tablet PCs or laptops, no costly and time consuming training courses.
If you can use a pen and write or sketch, then your training is virtually completed!
And unlike a tablet PC, you can even leave your customer/client/prospect with a hardcopy of the agreed form.
How does it work?
Users write on specially printed paper (digital paper) with an X Komms Smartpen (XKS).
The pen (as seen above) incorporates a tiny camera working up to 70 frames per second, a memory system, and bluetooth connectivity.
The memory in the pen stores the pen's strokes and their position on the paper via mapping co-ordinates, which creates a digital image that is time and date stamped.
Command boxes or 'pidgets' on each page provide intelligence to tell the pen which actions to perform, by ticking that box on the paper e.g. 'send the data' or 'begin new form' etc
The form is then sent via bluetooth from the pen to a mobile phone, and from there via GPRS to the various email addresses. It can arrive either as a graphical image of a form, or an XML file of captured data, which can then be uploaded into a back office system.
Further benefits:
1. Security
Each pen has a unique ID, and if it is lost or stolen, it can be simply de-activated and thereby made redundant.
The data uses 128-bit symmetric key encryption, the U.S. Government standard.
2. No budgets to buy new hardware?
The pens can either be leased or bought from X Komms over 24 or 36 month periods, so no CAPEX budgets need to be used.
3. Vital information capture
If a form has some vital information needed and that has been initially forgotten, then a message can be sent to the phone advising the user to ensure that vital data is taken.
4. Battery life
TheXkomms Smart Pen pen can be recharged using any modern Nokia mobile phone mains charger, as well as the penholder in the pack.
As the pen is only activated when the cap is taken off, it has enough life without the cap on for 12 hours of use, and with the cap on, for 5 weeks.
